Stacking Faults

Stacking faults are surface defects in crystal structures, specifically in close-packed arrangements. They occur when there is a deviation in the stacking sequence, such as removing a plane. Unlike grain boundaries, stacking faults do not change the crystal's orientation across the fault plane, resulting in a translation between the two sides of the fault.
