The cell membrane, or plasma membrane, is a thin, flexible barrier composed of lipids, proteins, and carbohydrates. It maintains cell shape and regulates substance exchange. The lipid bilayer, primarily made of phospholipids, is fluidic. Proteins serve various functions, while carbohydrates form the glycocalyx, aiding in cell interaction and immune responses.
